I
learned of the Screaming Meanie from reading Ron
Ayres' books on long distance riding, and from the Iron Butt
Association website (www.ironbutt.com).
The Screaming Meanie 220 is actually designed for long-distance truckers, but
it serves the same purpose for long-distance motorcyclists wanting to keep their pace on a specific schedule.
It contains a countdown timer on steroids. Simply set the
number of hours and minutes before you want to wake up (up to 19 hrs 59 minutes), and nap secure in the knowledge that you WON'T sleep through
this alarm. Starting 10 minutes before the timer expires, you'll
learn where this little gal got her name - from the piercing 120dB siren! (There are three volume setting if you don't need it that loud).
This is a truly unique, practical gadget for long distance riders (or
drivers). Choose from either
simple method of setting the alarm - either by setting your wakeup time directly, or as a countdown timer eliminating
concerns about time zones or figuring AM/PM. It features a backlit display, and a built-in battery tester. The
5- and 10-minute pre-alarms can be silenced with a single button press,
but the final alarm requires 3 buttons to be pushed simultaneously - a
complex enough maneuver that you WILL have to wake up to shut off the
alarm.
Are you looking for a bedside alarm clock? The Screaming Meanie is really designed for a fairly specific purpose, and that's long-distance drivers (motorcyclists, truckers, etc.) If you're looking for an extra-loud alarm clock for use in a bedroom, this isn't the best solution for you. We have found a line of loud bedside alarm clocks from Allegro Medical products that may suit your needs better. This link will take you there: Allegro Medical clocks (external link). We have no affiliation with Allegro Medical and this link is not an endorsement for Allegro or their products.
