7:00AM -- Time for a morning ride. Boots, jacket, gloves -
check. Helmet - Whoops, have to take off the gloves to run the helmet
strap through the D-rings... Sure is cold out! The fingers don't want to
do what you tell them to... Working by feel, and your fingers are getting
numb...
Even
without gloves, D-ring fasteners on helmets are a pain. Some helmets now come with a convenient buckle, but a lot don't - including many Shoei, Arai, and other popular brands. That's where Bob Wright comes into
the picture.
Bob is a retired quality control engineer from the Aerospace industry, where
he oversaw a team that had to meet quality standards for NASA's Space Shuttle
program. He also hates D-rings.
In 1979, Bob designed his first helmet buckle. He has improved on
that design over the years, and now offers the highest-quality helmet buckle
made - the patented Echo Quick Release. The Echo's construction
features:
- Metal-to-metal tempered steel fastening surfaces
- Patented locking system requires both release buttons to be
pressed, eliminating accidental opening
- Easy installation on any helmet
- DOT Certified
- Tested to Snell Foundation standards

My friend Roger had a heck of a time with
D-rings. You see, he has a big head - size XXXL helmet big. The
strap on his helmet was JUST barely long enough to fit through the rings, and
if you think it's tough to manipulate D-rings on YOUR helmet, try shortening the
strap! We added an Echo buckle to his helmet, and he now has about
2" of excess webbing. So, if your helmet straps are a little (or even
a lot) on the short side, the Echo is a great way to take care of that problem
too.
