I used to have hideous battery problems on my old BMW R80. It wasn't a
huge deal to start the bike; it weighed just a few hundred pounds and had
a simple carbureted engine, so I could push-start it myself with a slight
incline, or draft someone to push me.
On many of the bikes we ride today, this just isn't an option.
The fuel injection on my R1100RT precludes push-starting, and
even though Roger's Gold Wing is carbureted, I'm not going to be
the one pushing his 900-plus pound motorcycle (not to mention Roger) up
and down the street!
Jumper cables are one of those accessories that are handy to have in a
car or bike, but they're generally thought of as too bulky for the
precious storage space on our bikes. Not any more!
Our cables are small enough to fit in the tail of my
R1100RT (along with the tool kit, tire repair kit, and Autocom), or in a
tank bag, glove box, or tucked away in the corner of just about any bike's
luggage. They are sized just
right for motorcycles.
These are not wimpy cables, either. This 6-foot long set of 10-gauge copper set of cables have small
clamps that are perfect for the close confines around a motorcycle
battery. These cables are small enough for bikes, but powerful
enough to start a V6 engine.
